Can someone suggest VBA and Python resources specifically for Excel?
I'm helping someone from the Windows world upskill. Her biggest technical skill is Excel, so we're staring with that.
I can point her towards a Byte of Python for starters, but it has nothing about Excel integration and I really want to cover that. Thanks, folks.
#followerpower #fragfedi #python #boost
Seeking #recommendations for #alternatives to #Microsoft #Excel. Ideally #FOSS but not a hard requirement. I tried #LibreOffice #Calc and #CryptPad but found their capabilities lacking. E.g., I need something comparable to Excel's tables that allows me to refer to table and column names in my formulas instead of just cell locations. It looks like #SoftMaker can, but they also integrate #ChatGPT, and I'd like to avoid my money helping destroy the #environment and oppress the #GlobalSouth.

Aber was denn sonst?
So have I got this right, #Microsoft - if I insert a link into an #Excel spreadsheet cell, then A. I can change the link target but there's no way of stripping the link & also B. even if I delete the contents of the cell entirely, anything I subsequently write in it will still be formatted like a hyperlink & if I don't want non-functional & nonsensical links in my file I have to manually remove the underline & change the text color...?
I swear, MS errors feel like trolling.
Open science this, open data that. And than you get a ton of .xlsx files

The oldest Excel version I ever installed. Excel 2.0 from 14 x 5.25" 360K floppy disks. From 1987. Running in Windows/386 2.11. Yes, it's a slow monday at the office.
Schleswig-Holstein entsorgt Microsoft!
I hate #Microsoft with a white-hot intensity.
I have to use #Office365 for work. I created a spreadsheet that is not needed - someone else had created a better version. I want to delete it.
There is no option of any kind at all to delete the file from inside the #Excel 365 view.
If you go out to #OneDrive, it first shows you its Home view with recent files. All you can do from there is share, copy or open the file again.
If you go into the OneDrive My Files view and navigate to find the file, you can select the checkcircle (not a checkbox lest it prompts an interaction, and only visible when you hover in the right place) beside the file, and finally Delete appears in the inconspicous ribbon at the top or in the More Actions menu that appears if you hover in just the right place to get three dots and then click on them.
After all that, even with all open tabs closed, it refuses for at least five minutes to delete the file because it tells me it is locked.
After an indecent timeout of something somewhere, on my fifth attempt, it finally lets me delete the file.
They REALLY want to hang on to every possible bit of data so they can learn from it. And I guess so that people have to expand the storage for their OneDrive accounts to retain old shopping lists and the like.
I've been in IT long enough that I still think of disc and memory as things that needs to be managed and conserved.
AI web apps could replace Excel...that's a future I would love
As someone who continuously grumbles "this spreadsheet could have been a database"
