More on the #EuroStack, from @robin "The urgent question is whether the bloc’s leaders will back these words up with deeds — and if they have the will to use medicine strong enough for what ails us."

(imho most of the Big Tech villainy in the EU could be put an end to by enforcing existing laws and regs at reasonable speed.)

Composting the EU Tech Mess: From #NLnet to #Eurostack

There’s an old rot in the heart of European tech policy – and it’s not just from the corporate lobbies. It’s also sprouting from the well-funded, #NGO-flavoured corners of what should have been grassroots. A contradiction that tells us everything we need to know about how broken the current #EU #mainstreaming crew and paths are.

Take #Eurostack for example, on paper, it looks decent: a collaborative push toward European digital sovereignty, resilience, and open-source infrastructure. […]

"The most immediate goal has to be to build European cloud alternatives and create bundles of software on top, that offer attractive functionalities."

EU institutions do not have industrial policy in their DNA, and yet industrial policy is what #Eurostack needs (and not only Eurostack, as per the Draghi report). Curious to see if Jean Monnet's prophecy comes true once again, and @EUCommission comes through.

Great blog about EuroStack, we need to BUILD !
"We need to think about this first and foremost as an industrial project. With some public support but one where “industry” (the supply side) needs to be given the incentive to build, and the opportunity to scale and expand. We don’t need more “events” and pensive stuff about “our European values” and “democracy” around digital sovereignty. Industry should do its thing, or nothing will happen. Wake up."

Must-read #Eurostack post from Cristina Caffarra: cristinacaffarra.blog/2025/06/ "We don’t need think tanks without experience of business who never studied an investment deck creating a dust storm with “we need to set up a big public fund! Hundreds of billions! to fund everything from Brussels!”

You don't need a big project to clone every capability of US-based hyperscale clouds to build a Eurostack that's better than the incumbents---if you make buy/build decisions based on actual IT customer needs.

The supports multi-country projects with a programme called European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC). On 13 June already, France mentioned the "Digital Commons" currently in the making, which in principle could also support a sovereign operating system such as .

The EDIC should be launched this summer with France 🇫🇷, Germany 🇩🇪, Netherlands 🇳🇱 , Italy 🇮🇹 and Slovenia 🇸🇮! 🥳

I'm only an hour into the conference but am a bit worried already about the topic to be -- again -- mostly discussed as a geopolitical issue like the rather than from a user freedom and individual autonomy angle. Let's see where the discussion goes...

> The NGI Forum 2025 will focus on the building of an Open Internet Stack

Any idea, does that somehow relate to the #EuroStack that we heard mentioned a few times this year?
Not sure who to ask.
Well, the issue might be that there are 3 different "euro-stack" websites, so there is no clear definition of what that even is.
But sounds like all of these are similar ideas.
