I went to look up a nearby take away option for dinner that I have looked up many times before. The website for the take away is no longer on the first page of the Google search.

It is all part of Google’s attempts to bury the information you want so you have to spend longer on their site seeing their adds.

I am now using #DuckDuckGo for my internet searches - same search criteria and the take away website came up first.

J'habite dans un immeuble d'une centaine d'appartements dans quartier moyennement bourgeois à la bruxelloise. Depuis une dizaines d'années, pendant trois séries d'une dizaines de nuits, des personnes sans logement sont venus dormir dans la sas d'entrée, en arrivant tard, en partant tôt. Quelques voisins se sont plaint des odeurs, de plus rares voisins ont discuté avec les personnes en questions quand elles les croisaient, principalement pour les dissuader. Des années et des mois plus tard, l'AG de copropriété vient de décider à 77% de voix de transférer plus de 5000 euros à l'industrie de la #sécurité pour verrouiller les accès de ces sas la nuit.

Printers that disable basic USB printing unless you install the vendor’s “mobile print” app
Smart scales that won’t show your weight on their built-in display without pairing to the companion app
Wi-Fi plugs/outlets locked to on/off control via the manufacturer’s smartphone app only
Electric scooters or bikes that refuse to unlock or change settings without the provider’s app login
Digital thermometers whose readings remain hidden until you sync via their proprietary app
Wireless headphones that lock equalizer or firmware updates behind an app download
