ElementX is *so* much faster than the current stable versions of Element and its various soft forks (I'm currently using SchildiChat).

As I've said before, I'm guessing it will take another 6-12 months for all the Matrix 2.0 upgrades to be rolled out and fully stabilized in the various app and server software. But if ElementX performance is anything to go by, the new and improved Matrix ecosystem will be well worth an open-minded test.

I said it before on Mastodon. I'm reposting this again. Comparing #DeltaChat and #Matrix together, if you want hassle free and consistent messenger for private #E2EE chats, don't go for Matrix. DeltaChat is way better.

However, if you want something like a public forum, or a public chatroom, don't go for DeltaChat. Matrix is way better suited for that. And DeltaChat does not support public groups at all. In DeltaChat groups, there is no admin or moderator and everyone have got permission to remove or add the others.

I think I have to write a longer post on my personal blog about these two, comparing them together.

@duuk @bitsoffreedom Nóg n reden om niet met elkaar hier in europa niet Signal maar b.v. #element / #matrix te gaan gebruiken. Daar speelt ook dat probleem niet.

Begrijp me goed, de massale overstap naar Signal is een stap in de goede richting, maar niet de oplossing waar we uiteindelijk moeten zijn.

Naast jouw bezwaar, is het niet federatief, en wel volledig gevestigd in de VS. Dus erg kwetsbaar voor ons hier.

Uuuh, apparently an underlying problem with matrix-js-sdk that breaks even third-party clients? Nothing works, such a classic. :D

The Matrix client "Cinny" throwing an error when a Recovery Key was provided: "getSecretStorageKey callback returned falsey". The function "getSecretStorageKey" is part of the official Matrix javascript SDK.

Ich benutz' #matrix/​#element (vormals #riot) ja nun schon wirklich viele Jahre. Es gibt immer wieder neue Dinge, die mich an der Alltags-Tauglichkeit zweifeln lassen.

Heute: ein Chatraum endet mit dieser Nachricht. Immerhin gibt es einen Link zu einem scheinbar identischen Raum. Kein Hinweis, warum. Kein Hinweis, was anders ist. Einfach "du musst jetzt hier klicken, und die gesamte vorige Konversation ist übrigens weg. KTHXBYE".

Meldung am Ende eines Matrix-Raums: Dieser Raum wurde ersetzt und ist nicht länger aktiv. Die Konversation wird hier fortgesetzt. (lezteres ist ein Link zu einem anderen Raum).

Trying to export chat history from the previous #Matrix server. Good thing the "export chat" dialog in #Element has an option that allows selecting "from the beginning", so that you can download the whole history instead of having to scroll way up first.

*selects that*
*exports chat*
*looks into resulting JSON*

first message: "** Unable to decrypt: […]"

*scrolls all the way up in the chat*
*exports again*

resulting JSON now has the message instead of an error

_Why_ are we using this shit?!

Joined a new #Matrix server. Opened the room listing. Saw a room for a project that sounded interesting. They had a link to their website in the room topic. So, from the "explore public rooms" list of rooms, I clicked the link.

A new tab opened with the project's website. Did some reading, decided that it's not that interesting to me after all. Closed the tab.

Came back to the #Element tab to discover that it had me join the room, too.

God I love the Matrix experience so much. 🙄

I got nothing for Signal. I used my brother's phone number but the 6 digit verification number just doesn't come.. He doesn't even know what Signal app is, so I doubt he used his phone number to sign up.

Guess this isn't the day to meddle with Signal. "No Signal" I guess :(

I'mma stick with SimpleX chat. This and the email. I dunno about Matrix+Element though
