"So in ruling for our clients, the judge found that the mere fact that DOGE could access their records was an injury that gave us standing to proceed – and also found that there were other injuries that would separately give us standing, including the possibility that DOGE's breach could expose our clients to "hacking, identity theft, and other activities that are substantially harmful."

The US government repeatedly argued that we weren't accusing them of disclosing our clients' records, every time they did this, the judge pointed to our actual filings, which plainly assert that DOGE agents were "viewing, possessing and using" our clients' records, and that this constitutes "disclosure" under the law, and according to OPM's own procedures.

The judge found that we were entitled to seek relief under the Administrative Procedures Act (APA), which proscribes the conduct of federal agencies – and that our relief could be both "declaratory" (meaning a court could rule that DOGE was breaking the law) and "injunctive" (meaning the court could order DOGE to knock it off)."

If you are interested in setting one up for yourself, It's pretty easy with the instructions provided by the @eff but you can also find help at the GitHub page.

I bought several of the cell hotspot units for only $11 off eBay.

I did mine in about 10 minutes (5 of which was looking for an answer on the GitHub page for something happening on my Mac when I went to flash the device) and it appears to be working fine.

Be sure and read the section on reporting results back to #EFF too!

The bad news is that I was sitting in a waiting room for a spinal x-ray since I’ve been having recurring lower back spasms and pain.

The good news is an older woman saw the back of my @eff “Stay Golden” hoodie¹ and stopped to tell me, “That’s absolutely beautiful!” and we struck up a brief conversation about the #EFF. She didn’t really grok what the EFF is/does, but she repeatedly told me how beautiful the design was! 😅

I forgot to tell her it glows in the dark. 😭

#RationalWiki is facing imminent legal peril from 5 separate defamation lawsuits from 5 #eugenics supporters. At least 2 of the lawsuits appear to be frivolous on their face. The 5 litigants are known to have acted in concert to take advantage of the weak #SLAPP protections within our state of incorporation and to bankrupt us. We need both monetary donations and legal representation (we are already aware of both the ACLU and the #EFF).

I shall complain a little bit on a stance from EFF and how I think they should be pushing harder. Not so long ago Australia decided to ban any platform where users can upload things, to anybody who is younger than 16 years. This is an ageist, paternalistic atrocity and has to be fought with viciousness. Yet EFF seem to only understand the ...

Since there are many #protests against #trump, #musk, #republicans, and ultimately #fascism, it’s important y’all know something about printers and photocopiers. Many add special watermarks to the paper that identifies the specific device that was used to print the document. Security experts and journalists are fairly certain these were used to identify #whistleblower Reality Winner and ultimately convict her.

Given many people print out pamphlets, posters, etc. it’s important to know that they may inadvertently be leaving a digital fingerprint.

While I’m not a fan of the #EFF as of late, they do maintain a handy list of printers that do not implement tracking dots here: eff.org/pages/list-printers-wh

There is also a GitHub project with code that obfuscates those dots, making them unreadable by authorities: github.com/dfd-tud/deda.

Right now the legality of protest is codified in the constitution. However, Trump has already flaunted numerous other laws to go after people he perceives as his enemy, so be safe out there. If you are printing protest literature, make certain it can’t be tracked back to you.

Electronic Frontier Foundation · List of Printers Which Do or Do Not Display Tracking DotsWarning (Added 2015) Some of the documents that we previously received through FOIA suggested that all major manufacturers of color laser printers entered a secret agreement with governments to ensure that the output of those printers is forensically traceable. Although we still don't know if this...

I just received a concerning email from the OTF (@opentechfund.bsky.social) stating that a major source of their funding is in jeopardy.

If you care about open-source, anti-censorship, or the open internet, please consider supporting one of the projects they fund.
