@amoroso @lproven Well, I can think of many ways how to improve #computers. 😉

Once you've got rid of #filenames, #folders, #applications, ... you will find much room for coming up with something fundamental new. This
time without adapting humans for the computer but the otherwise round: creating the ultimate digital tool for the humans.

This can never be reached by an evolutionary process like suggested in the article.

I disagree with the judgment that we tried hard.

There's no incentive for a revolution. No one is able to start this process. We're pretty much stuck. 🫩

This is not the top of the IT industry. We're still in its stone age and made a situation where any fundamental change is a downside somehow. A local optimum but never ever the global one, if you like.

Just updated (make buildworld) #FreeBSD Current (#main) 15.0. As always, everything went smoothly!

Just a quick note: on first boot, the laptop didn’t connect to Wi-Fi because the driver (iwlwifi module – man.freebsd.org/iwlwifi/4) was missing.
If you run into the same issue, just enable USB tethering on your smartphone, load urndis (man.freebsd.org/urndis/4), and simply run # fwget (man.freebsd.org/fwget/8).

Now time for a nice pkg upgrade -f to finish things up… and everything’s up to date!

What are you devices (laptops, phones, servers, etc.) named after? My theme is greek mythology: gods, heros and monsters.
My PiHole is named after argus, the all-seeing giant. My laptop that I often took on journeys is named odysseus. The home server is named herakles, because of all the different tasks it fulfils.

I also heard of someone using place names of famous disasters like Chernobyl, Hindenburg or Deepeater Horizion.

What‘s your theme?

Boosts appreciated.

"This Week in Plasma" brings the news that QtQuick-based KDE software acquires inertial scrolling using touchpads, the inbuilt RDP service supports syncing clipboard text between client and server, and session restore (Plasma remembering the position and size of windows) is coming to Wayland, among many other things:
