The Cost of Ethnic Nationalism: A Global Perspective

The most successful political lie of our time isn't about elections or economics. It's the seductive myth that ethnic nationalism delivers what it promises. Ethnic nationalist movements have weaponized identity to capture power. These movements, from Viktor Orbán's Hungary to Modi's India, systematically betray the people they claim to protect. The same happens from Myanmar's killing fields to Brexit Britain. The evidence is overwhelming: ethnic nationalism consistently impoverishes, […]

The fascists got something right.

In this Eurocentric world, only the European fascism received worldwide cancellation.

Since Bangladeshi fascism is not recognised as fascism by most parts of the world, the fascists are relocating to the safety of the West.

Their plundered money and accumulated privileges through corruption and extortion are helping them in this process.

They have rightly identified that if they can occupy Ivy Leagues, they will have the soft power required to dictate Bangladeshi university campuses.

The anti-fascist camp lacks the understanding, greet, and resources to emulate this.

Bangladesh's empty coffers are going to the top American universities conferring covetted degrees on fascists, who will instrumentalize those degrees to destroy Bangladesh's social fabric and derail its democratic transition.

Never underestimate fascism.

Never underestimate fascism that has had the opportunity of looting and laundering hundreds of billions of US dollars for 15 years.

"The decision to pursue the indictment against #Abrego Garcia led to the abrupt departure of Ben Schrader, a high-ranking federal prosecutor in Tennessee, sources briefed on Schrader's decision told ABC News. Schrader's resignation was prompted by concerns that the case was being pursued for political reasons, the sources said."

click.actionnetwork.orgSign the Grassroots Amicus Brief: Help federal workers stand up to Trump! In the dead of night, Donald Trump’s administration issued a disgraceful and retaliatory Executive Order declaring war on working people by denying their collective bargaining rights. This order was a direct attack on the rights of one million patriotic American civil servants―targeted simply because they are members of a union that stands up to this administration’s harmful policies. Trump’s order claims to be in response to national security concerns, but that’s plainly ridiculous. Elon Musk and Donald Trump don’t like that AFGE is standing up for their members against attempts to politicize the civil service, chaotically fire federal employees, and cut services to the American people. These federal workers have had union rights since before America went to the moon. A union nurse at the VA isn’t a threat to national security. This attack on federal workers is an attack on everything the government does. It is an attack on Social Security, on our national parks, and on our veterans. This is a fight that will be won in the courts. But that doesn’t mean that we should sit around and wait for judges to recognize the legal rights of these workers. The American Federation of Government Employees is preparing immediate legal action and will fight relentlessly to protect the rights of union members, and all working Americans, from these unprecedented attacks. But this fight is bigger than any one union―or even the labor movement. Donald Trump wants to be the kind of billionaire boss with total control over his employees. Their ideas aren’t valued, and their service is taken for granted. If Trump gets his way, he won’t stop. He and his billionaire buddies like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk won’t stop until we’re all under his thumb. Sign the Grassroots Amicus Brief supporting Federal Workers Standing up to Trump’s Executive Order!

"At times, it seems like #liberals are overcomplicating things with these postmortems, but I think mapping out a rather simple sequence of events can help explain how last year played out:

1. #Democrats win the presidency in 2020 with help from some states’ expanding #ballot access and contributing to the largest pool of #voters in U.S. history. (Note that Joe Biden won without cozying up to “#manosphere” podcasters or abandoning progressive principles like racial justice to win.)

2. #Republicans introduce hundreds of voter suppression measures, many of which are enacted and make it harder for Americans to vote.

3. With fewer people voting in 2024 than voted in 2020, Donald Trump wins."

An insightful, and kind of sobering, walk-through from Fairvote's Steven Hill of the possibilities and pitfalls for advancing #RankedChoiceVoting and #ProportionalRepresentation Electoral reform is hard. But worth it if we're going to preserve and build a better #democracy

(Not crazy about the AI art though. What the hell is even going on with those raccoons and bears and... lemur?)
