For the #fediverse and friends this raises some pretty stark challenges:

Clearly the promise of human-centricity, agency, #dataprivacy etc. does not resonate with the masses.

But importantly, it does not resonate with their appointed political stewards and assorted elites either: if not outright captured, they have made their Faustian bargains and are intensely relaxed about the #adtech dystopia.

Another potential wedge for disruption would be to offer something genuinely new...

Kindly asking @Mer__edith at @signalapp whether she might want to comment? Thanks.

Google Discover’s AI Overviews are now live for iOS and Android in the U.S., offering summaries directly in the feed 📱. This threatens news publishers by reducing traffic and ad revenue 💸.

While users get quick info, many fear fewer clicks and less visibility for their sites 🔍. With AI taking over, will smaller publishers survive? 🤔

Microsoft’s Copilot Vision now allows Windows insiders to share their entire desktop with AI for real-time analysis 👀.

While it promises convenience, this raises serious privacy concerns 🛑. Users must opt in, but the potential for unwanted data collection is real.

Is it worth trading privacy for productivity? 🤔

Hi @Rhababerbarbar

Agreed.

Magic Wormhole [1] uses a PAKE construction to ensure high-security, end-to-end encryption with human-sized codes.

It is a peer-to-peer protocol that requires both the sender and recipient to have it running, which can be less convenient than `Send`, for instance. It works great.

A list of available clients can be found here [2].
