The emerging preferred route for a light rail line in Cork was published today.

One of the things that strikes me about the route is how successfully it links many of the leisure/recreation/sport facilities in the city - Páirc Uí Caoimh, Marina Park, the Marquee, Páirc Uí Rinn, the Mardyke, MTU Sports Grounds...even Mahon Golf Club!

It moves this proposal beyond a purely peak-time commuter service and could reduce car trips at all times of the day and week.

Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien has announced the M28 #Cork to #Ringaskiddy Road Project in #Ireland, approved by Cabinet and progressing to construction. The 11km motorway will improve access to the Port of Cork, replace the outdated N28, and enhance safety. It will also reduce congestion, improve air quality, and facilitate the redevelopment of #Tivoli Docks for residential and commercial use. The €456 million project will take up to three years to complete and includes active travel elements to encourage walking and cycling. The scheme aims to improve journey times for commuters and road safety, with positive impacts on the local community and businesses.

Seagull’s Perch on Wallis Buoy

Ah, the majestic Wallis buoy. It's a beacon of maritime sophistication and seagull real estate. On my way to Sherkin Island, I came upon this floating masterpiece, complete with a solar panel that probably powers the seagull’s Netflix subscription. The bird, perched confidently atop its throne, seemed to be enforcing the 6 km speed limit with all the authority of a traffic warden who’s had one too many cups of tea.
