After proving ineffective in the role of Health Minister, Shane Reti wearing his 'Statistics Minister' hat is lauding Stats NZ's plan to kill off the NZ census in favour of "administrative data from government agencies". Reti cites the UK as an example of what they're trying to achieve.

So how's it going in the UK? Whoops! They're on the verge of abandoning the reform, with leading academics and statisticians warning the approach “risks an increasingly fragmented and inaccurate data landscape”, describing the government’s plans as “wishful thinking”.

NZ's 2023 Census cost $325m. Luxon's losers have only budgeted $227m for the 2030 Census. They've grabbed $100m to feed their tax cuts for the rich. That's their main motivation for "reform".

The deletions began shortly after #Trump took office. #CDC web pages on #vaccines, #HIV prevention, & #ReproductiveHealth went missing. Findings on #BirdFlu transmission vanished minutes after they appeared. The #Census Bureau’s public repository went offline, then returned w/o certain directories of geographic info. The #DOJ expunged the #Jan6th #insurrection from its site, & whitehouse.gov took down an explainer page about the #Constitution.

I was talking about the US data that I work with and I wonder when people are going to destroy the US #census. It's been a right-wing goal to make it into a head count of citizens with stable housing (and nothing else) for a long time.

But there's another force for destruction and that's in the form of the assurances that Census data are not supposed to be used against you personally. Don't think that will last.

NY-15 has highest share: 40.1 percent of adult population is on Medicaid, only. Seven of the top 30 districts are in New York City.
