More blackthorn blossom and lichen, spotted in the sunshine last week on our walk to forage wild garlic.

Two white blackthorn flowers on twigs covered in yellow and grey lichen. hawthorn flowers normally have 5 petals and long stamen emerging from the centre. The petals on these flowers were a bit battered, on the upper flower one petal is nearly hidden behind another, the bottom flower has lost a petal. On the dense twigs around the flowers a few leaves are emerging. In the middle is a yellow lichen with orange discs on it. Grey lichen covers most of the rest of the twigs it has frilled lobes. More out of focus lichen is visible behind the twigs and flowers.

Noticed that the first of the James Grieve apple tree flowers had opened went to take a photo & within the same minute 2 pollinators had visited. Trees really provide a lot of food for the pollinators.

Cherry blossom season has arrived on Edgehill Road in the Broomhill area of Glasgow. The city might not be known for its cherry blossoms, but Glasgow has more than its fair share of them at this time of year, and I just love seeing them.

Cherry "Snow Goose" - blossom with mostly white petals tinged pink carried on an upright branch. The blossom nods down at the camera.

Amelanchier - white blossom with thin, pointed petals. The shadowy branches look dreamlike and hazy.

Fastigiate Crabapple - Light pink blossoms turning white in the sun. The upright branch weaves a little.

A few photos today

An allium with white petals with a green line down the centre with pale stamen tipped with cream. There are green leaves all around in varying degrees of soft focus.

Some pictures of spring tree blossoms and of the 'peace pagoda' in Battersea Park, London which I took recently.
