Wenn durch eine Schwachstelle in der IT Hacker eindringen können, dann drohen Datenverlust (Geschäftsgeheimnisse, Kundendaten) und/oder Stillstand des Betriebs. Jeglicher Schaden, den Cybergangster potentiell anrichten können, birgt ein existenzielles Risiko für den Betrieb. - Images with Foxclone.
- Snapshots with Timeshift.
- Files with Borg.

P.S. I cannot stress enough that if you do decide to start using #PaperlessNGX or any other document management system, BACK UP YOUR DATA. With Paperless NGX that means setting up a daily export job and making sure you follow the 3-2-1 backup rule for the export directory (3 copies of the data on 2 different storage media at least 1 of which is offsite).

@343max Ich nutze für fast alles dieses RSync Skript. Die Dateien liegen klar im Backup Ziel und mehrere Versionen werden beibehalten. Auch nett, um mal schnell ein Backup auf einer externen Festplatte zu machen. Was hilft das tollste Backup, wenn man nix wieder raus bekommt. Unter macOS allerdings mit Homebrew "rsync" installieren, weil Apple da letztens was vermurkst hat. Verschlüsseln kann es allerdings nicht.

Urlaubsbilder sichern mit Raspberry Pi und Syncthing - im Video wird sogar ein Raspberry Pi 1 von 2012 genutzt :-) Aber es gibt auch eine ganz interessante Hardware-Empfehlung: Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, ca. 17 Euiro.

Thank you @stefano for sharing! I'm looking forward to this series; backups are far too often overlooked, and then people have to try to recover bits and pieces from the remnants.
For me, the place where I generally start is RESTORATION: what do I want a restore (full or partial) to look like? Then, storage media (local external HDD, USB flash drive, tape, cloud, …; RTO may drive this), taking into account integrity. A lot of choices are then driven or dictated by those.

Question to the home lab and self hosted communities: what's the go-to cloud backup service these days? I've been using Backblaze, but there have been some controversies about their future. Are those irrelevant?
Additional context: I need to run backups both from Linux (doesn't matter the tool) and Synology (their native backup tool).

Gerade habe ich das letzte # Proxmox #Backup der #Homeassistant #VM, zu dessen Zeitpunkt die Daten in Homeassistant noch alle da waren, zurückgespielt.
Und siehe da, nun ist auch das Verzeichnis '/homeassistant' mit jeder Menge Inhalt befüllt.
Kein Wunder, dass die histrorischen Daten fehlen, wenn die ganze Datenbank, die configuration.yaml etc. komplett weg sind.
Aus irgendeinem Grund hat sich das Verzeichnis komplett geleert, als ob da jemand 'rm -r /homeassistant' gemacht hätte. Da aber niemand außer mir Zugriff darauf hat (Zugriff von extern nur per #VPN, #SSH mit #Pubkey abgesichert und Passwortzugang deaktiviert, keiner außer mir kennt die Zugangsdaten, mein Notebook ist vollverschlüsselt), kann das eigentlich nicht sein. 
Eigentlich könnte nur sein, dass ein Addon einen Trojaner / Backdoor enthält.

Ich wollte mir gerade in #Homeassistant was anschauen und bin fast vom Stuhl gefallen.
Alle !!!! Werte und Statistiken, außer denen von heute, sind komplett weg. Kein #Update gemacht, nichts an irgendeiner #Config verändert. Gar nichts. HA läuft einfach vor sich hin und aus heiterem Himmel das.
WTF. Damit ist HA komplett unbrauchbar, wenn da solche SuperGAU aus dem nichts passieren.
Es wird jede Nacht ein #Backup geschrieben. Aber wenn ich das zurückspiele, sind die Daten von heute weg, oder?
Wie bekomme ich das zusammengeführt?

De lichten gingen niet aan in huis.
Oorzaak: SD kaartjje van de Home Assistant Raspberry Pi is stuk.
Dus, ik ging naar Coolblue in Rotterdam met de metro, SSD halen (want beter dan SD kaartje). Daar de nieuwste HA versie op gezet en de backup wordt op dit moment teruggezet. 
Gratis tip: zorg voor goede backups!
