Jürgen Hubert<p>Musings on <a href="https://thefolklore.cafe/tags/accessability" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>accessability</span></a> after doing some minor tech support for my 85 year old father.</p><p>Some of my same-age peers have told me that unlike our parents, _we_ will be able to keep up with the latest tech developments and their use, since we grew up with rapidly changing technology.</p><p>I was always sceptical of that. And in recent years, I've become even more sceptical, as important parts of our IT infrastructure - such as <a href="https://thefolklore.cafe/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a> searches - have become _less_ user friendly as the companies that maintain them try to squeeze more money out of them to the detriment of the users.</p><p>So yeah, it's not looking good for us as we approach retirement age. If you have kids, try to stay on good terms with them so that they can explain this stuff to you. If you don't, try to befriend some younger people who will put up with your tech questions.</p>

As a wee lad, I did all the stuff - Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation. I was born here all my life. When I was around four years old, the church kicked out my mom and, by extension, my family. An <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/ExcludedCatholic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ExcludedCatholic</span></a>? I explored other practices and faiths, <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/meditation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meditation</span></a>, <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/yoga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>yoga</span></a>, <a href="https://rcsocial.net/tags/Buddhism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Buddhism</span></a>, and all the things. I wanted to not convert to a religion or practice that I had not been born to or wasn't otherwise ancestrally connected. I explored Protestant fellowships but soon began seeking "the deeper things" back in the lives of saints.
