Electrek · China cracks down on automated driving features after Tesla’s FSD launchBy Fred Lambert

Yesterday I drove a car compliant with the new EU "Intelligent" Speed Adaptation directive. Good car, but, fuck me, the beeping!

It's like being a teenager again with your mum constantly telling you off. You immediately tune out all the car's beeps. Yeah. What-EVER!

EU really fucked this regulation up. It nags the same amount if you go 1km/h over the limit as 30 or even 100.

@randahl I have worked on this technology including a technical trial by the British government 20 years ago.

Speed warning is one thing and I'm all for that. As anybody knows who's driven a car with this "Intelligent" Speed Adaptation knows - the system often gets it wrong. It often gets confused by signs for other lanes on highways, in roadworks, etc. In these cases speed enforcement by a flawed system is Not Good & not helping.

Let THAT sink in… 🤦‍♂️

Teslas are UNABLE to self drive:

1) in a tunnel that was built by Tesla

2) with no cross traffic

3) with zero unknowns

The most they would have to do is brake if a preceding Tesla stopped unexpectedly in the tunnel in front of them.

The Register · Musk schmoozes Chinese Premier as Tesla Full Self-Driving remains parkedBy Richard Speed

The idea that somebody will behave exactly as though they're driving when they've been sold a system specifically developed to relieve driving duties and marketed as such shouldn't survive an encounter with a court of law.

Somehow, it probably will.
