getting registerd via e-mail on an "anonymous" image board is almost as dumb as sending your DNA to some shitty corporation to see "where you are from" and expecting your data to be safe.

I’d argue that data is even more problematic. They’ve always guarded the phenotype data that customers provide tooth & nail, probably as that’s where they saw the profit. #23andMe used customer data for research, but offered an opt-out option. How many users actively chose to share their data, and how many simply didn't care to think about it? Also, how many users bought a kit years ago and are unaware of what is happening now?

DTC genetic testing was a great way to empower people, but #empowerment comes with a cost.

For everyone trying to delete your 23andMe data...you can't

When you press delete on your 23andMe account and data, it will vanish from the site. But a clause in the privacy statement and 23andMe’s adherence to laboratory rules mean that your genetic background is still there, somewhere, in the company’s records.
