„Tschüss, Twitter – willkommen, Mastodon“, @festal bei Zeit-Online mit einem Plädoyer für mehr Förderung für gemeinwohlorientierte Infrastruktur als europäische Alternative zu BigTech. Sehe ich genauso:

Good morning! A post just rolled across my fedi-timeline saying not to post about politics on Mastodon, so I'm here to remind you that:

1 "politics" refers to decision-making about how to live together in groups
2 choosing to not participate in political discussion is saying you support the status quo, and is a political stance
3 abstaining from politics because you feel safe from its impacts is a privilege and a choice to abandon your more vulnerable neighbours

Just finished the final wrap-up call for #NGIPointer (@EC_NGI).

It's been a good year - really interesting work myself (see the last 3 posts on httptoolkit.com/blog/) and it's incredible to see the EU directly funding amazing & ambitious open-source internet tech projects like this.

The full list of funded projects is here: ngi.eu/discover-ngi-solutions/

#Mastodon, like Twitter, counts each URL in your post as 23 characters against your total character count (500 for most instances).

For example:

example.com/a-really-long-url-

That example URL is 104 characters in length, but only counted as 23 against my 500.

As such, there is no need for Bitly, TinyURL, Owly, and other short URL services. The only reason you would use those services is to track clicks so you can further track engagement with your post.

November 6 🎂🥳🎉: Happy birthday and long life to Alexandra Elbakyan!

Neuroscientist and software developer #Alexandra Elbakyan who revolutionized the academic and scientific world with her ideals of open access to scientific knowledge.

@parltrack This is for EU institutions and their top officials. Not sure they offer it to MEPs. The MEPs in my bubble are rather on their party servers, e.g. gruene.social.

@parltrack A few people are maintaining lists with officials and professionals, the names were extracted from eupolicy.social/@ilumium/10929

I am sure there are more MEPs around. I’ll have a look and get back to you if I find anything.

so, i was cheap and asked on the birdsite if there are already any MEPs here in the fediverse, and @GregoireGaonach@twitter.com immediately responded with a seed for a list:

@woelken
@marcel_kolaja
@alexandrageese
@echo_pbreyer
@sophieintveld

please expand if you know any other MEP and their address

social.network.europa.eu/about is a new fediverse instance for EU institutions, bodies and agencies. only 20 persons on there, but we can expect this to explode. maybe we can get some of the MEPs here?

Did you know that the European Union had an official Mastodon instance where only official EU institutions could open an account?

social.network.europa.eu/explo

No need to pay for a blue checkmark, accounts on this instance are, by definition, officials.

That’s Fediverse done right!

Not sure I impressed the audience today when I was asked what stands in the way of a fully realized metaverse and responded, "the fact that it seems like it sucks and nobody wants it?" and the panel moderator was like "I mean ethically. This is a panel about ethics.." ツ)_/¯
