Read this 🧵 by @ella to find out the latest incredible developments on and help to spread the word! Don’t let Orban get away with pressuring governments into agreeing to this unprecedented mass surveillance proposal!

The Hungarian government under Orban currently has the presidency in the Council of the EU. Even though they know from two sessions of Coreper II last week, that there was no majority for , they scheduled a public vote and apparently plan to use this to pressure and shame any opposing government.

Freedom not Fear

There has not been progress on the proposal in Council of the EU because many governments still push for undermining encryption.
The Council's own legal service has established that the proposal is incompatible with European fundamental rights and would violate the very essence of the right to privacy.

This move by the Hungarian presidency shows again the disdain of the government for European democracy. Sowing discord among member states and playing dirty tricks, rather than addressing the substantiated critique of the proposed mass surveillance.

Just last week media reported that the government of Hungary in the past has spied on EU officials. Orban acts like a hostile actor, undermining European democratic institutions from within.

@fnf

Unfortunately, other governments are still validating Orbán, and playing along with his games.

Also because they, too, want #ChatControl so badly!
